It may not be New York or Paris, but art shopping in Sausalito is an activity worth pursuing. The bayside town is steeped in artistic heritage, having been the home of beatniks and Bohemians in the 50s. Below I’ve listed some of the Sausalito art galleries worth popping by on your visit.

Hanson Gallery Fine Art

Hanson Gallery Fine Art is one of the heavy hitters in the Sausalito art scene. The gallery has had the luxury of exhibiting the artwork of world-famous contemporary artists and established Modern Masters, like Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Alexander Calder. It is by far one of the best places to buy beautiful art in Sausalito.

Ahoy! Scrimshaw Gallery is a quirky gallery hidden in a small alley off Princess Street. It is the best place for art shopping in Sausalito if you’re into maritime paintings.

The gallery’s walls are covered with hundreds of maritime prints and paintings. In fact, it houses the most complete selection of nautical art, scrimshaw, and other collectibles. The gallery also displays the works of several top-named artists in maritime art, such as John Stobart, Geoff Hunt, and Gary Lucy.

Hubba Hubba is a gem of a store in Sausalito. And, to be honest, who can resist a store called, Hubba Hubba? Souvenir Shopping in Sausalito

Shopping in Sausalito - Souvenirs

There’s no shortage of stores to go souvenir shopping in Sausalito. The quirky town has equally quirky shops where you’ll find unique gifts to bring back home.

Only in Sausalito

Only in Sausalito is a souvenir shop with jeans. What else can I say? At a glance, this shop seems like a standard souvenir shop. There are shot glasses, hats, accessories, and other things you’d find in a souvenir shop. It also has a wide selection of hoodies and t-shirts boasting “Sausalito” in their designs. However, what sets this place apart is jeans. There’s a wall dedicated to authentic Levi’s jeans!

Collector’s Gallery

Collector’s Gallery is a unique store to visit on your Sausalito shopping adventure. The selection is huge and there are a lot of nice gifts that you can purchase. They have beautiful art pieces, all kinds of things related to glass or crystals, and a large selection of Pandora beads – they have charms that you can’t find in any other locations of Pandora!

Sausalito Ferry Co. Novelty Toy and Gift Store

Sausalito Ferry Co. is the perfect place for little gifts to bring home and to find the Funko item you’ve been searching for. It has the funniest, most irreverent cards for all occasions, weird and kooky gifts and gadgets (things you never knew you needed), and lots of cool “touristy” things. They had lots of candy and postcards as well.

Across the street is their sister store, Games People Play, another fun place, more geared to kids with games, and kids’ books, local fun things.

Waterfront Shopping in Sausalito

Shopping in Sausalito - Waterfront

Sausalito is a bayside town. So you can’t leave without indulging in a little bit of Sausalito waterfront shopping. There are tons of shops, but here are three stores you can’t miss when walking down Bridgeway.

KARL the Store

KARL the Store is a very special place not to be missed on your downtown Sausalito shopping day. The inventory is perfectly curated. Dennis, the owner is a gem with excellent, eclectic taste and has a personal connection and story for every single item he buys. It’s right next to Sausalito Equator – full kitchen and so much much more than coffee and pastries. Enjoy a family brunch and then wander in and meet Dennis.

Bacchus and Venus

Perhaps you couldn’t make it to Napa for a delightful day exploring the vineyards and drinking California wine. Don’t worry. Bacchus and Venus has you covered. The wines are from smaller vineyards/batches that outshine the big guys. Their rotating flights offer the best ready-to-drink wines that fit any taste. If you don’t know what to get, the bartenders just know. They have a true gift of knowing what a customer likes, just by watching them.

Waterstreet Co.

If you love the feeling of vintage shops or nostalgia, stop by Waterstreet Co. This hardware store is one of the last old-fashioned and hard-working hardware stores still in existence in Sausalito. The guys who work here really know their stuff and are willing to share their expertise if you ask them for advice on products or projects you’re working on. They also give out dog biscuits so all the local dogs like touring their owners.

Venice Gourmet

Venice Gourmet is another classic stop in Sausalito. The cute shop has been operating in Sausalito for about 50 years. And despite having been updated, it has retained the old-world charm of the deli. It’s a great place for salad and sangria with beside views.
