The Best New Restaurants in Sausalito (2024)

For a small community – less than 7,200 people as of the last census – Sausalito has a lot to offer those of us who love to eat well. From great comfort foods like burgers and Italian to far-flung flavors like Indian, Thai, and sushi, the world is your oyster when it comes to dining in Sausalito…. and yes, of course, there are also great seafood restaurants.

Sometimes though, you’re looking for something different – that can be hard to find in Sausalito where you’re more than likely dining at an Institution Restaurant (like The Trident, Scoma’s, or The Spinnaker) rather than somewhere new. Restaurant properties don’t turn over very often, though the pandemic certainly shook things up a little bit.

Below you’ll find a guide to the new restaurants in Sausalito as of the past few years; these have opened at a steady rate to complement the options and flavors you could previously find, and they’re definitely worth checking out if you’re an adventurous eater. Ready to dig in?

Sausalito is the traditional lands of the Graton Rancheria, Miwok, and Me-Wuk (Coast Miwok) peoples. With respect, I make a formal land acknowledgment, extending my appreciation to the past and present stewards of these lands. To learn more, I invite you to explore Native Land.

Ditas (Opened: 2023)

Sausalito’s newest restaurant was big news when it opened in the space above The Trident in 2023; Ditas is the first U.S. outpost of a popular restaurant with locations in Delhi and Mumbai.

The fine dining menu is upscale to match the world class views – as you might expect from the location, you can enjoy sweeping views of Richardson and San Francisco Bays while dining on fresh seafood, top-quality meat, and American classics.

Located at 562 Bridgeway, and open for lunch and dinner daily.

Gilligan’s Poke Shop (Opened: 2022)

I was delighted to discover Gilligan’s Poke Shop – poke is one of my favorite dishes and Sausalito certainly has enough great fish available to make it properly.

Each day, they offer a number of freshly made tuna poke varieties, like spicy ahi, limu ahi, and shoyu ahi. You can buy it straight up by the pound and grab a few sides (like rice and seaweed salad) to-go or order a poke bowl to get it all in one.

Located at 46 Caledonia, inside Sausalito Market, and open daily from 9am/10am to 5pm.

Zalta Mediterranean (Opened: 2021)

Pizza in Sausalito - Zalta Mediterranean

Zalta Mediterranean has been open for a few years ago now; it took the place of Fast Food Français after it closed on Calendonia Road. It adds some diversity to the dining scene, especially in New Town, and also provides a unique alternative to the variety of pizza spots in Sausalito.

In addition to Roman-style pizzas, the menu features dishes from the whole of the Med (living up to the name!) including falafel, mezze, kebab, and Greek fries. If you’re looking for new flavors, it’s a great option: people always say that Sausalito reminds them of Mediterranean Europe, and now you can taste it during your visit too.

Located at 39 Caledonia Street, and open for dinner weeknights and lunch/dinner on weekends.

Bonus: Show de Carnes Brazilian Steakhouse (Opened: 2023)

I don’t generally cover Marin City when writing about restaurants; Show de Carnes Brazilian Steakhouse lists a Sausalito address, but it’s located in the Marin Gateway shopping center area, and locals will dispute that it’s “in” Sausalito.

Since opening in April 2023, Show de Carnes Brazilian Steakhouse has become wildly popular, expanding to other parts of the Bay Area too. The primary experience is Brazilian barbecue, served tableside – if you’ve never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, you’re in for a treat. The restaurant also has a “salad” buffet of other dishes to create an unlimited two-course meal. It’s not cheap, but it’s an experience and definitely unique in this part of the Bay Area.

Located at 196 Donahue Street, and open for lunch and dinner daily.

Have you heard of any other new restaurants in Sausalito? Let me know in the comments and I’ll get them added to this post!

Valerie fell in love with Sausalito after her very first visit; she and her husband then moved there in 2019. It's one of her favorite places in the Bay Area and she's excited to show you the best parts of her city.
