It’s 5pm, you’re done with sightseeing in San Francisco (or work) for the day, and you want to go somewhere new… what about crossing the Golden Gate Bridge to spend an evening in Sausalito? Sausalito is a fabulous place to spend an evening – or a whole day, or even a lifetime!
But if you only have a few hours, you want to make the most of them. Before tucking into your dinner (reservations recommended pretty much everywhere, so get on that ASAP!), you might be keen to grab a pre-dinner bite or drink during Happy Hour in Sausalito.
There are only three spots for Happy Hour in Sausalito – if you’re sticking to the strict definition that Happy Hour must include some sort of food and/or drink discount. But beyond those three, there are a number of other great places around town where you could spend a few happy hours (but don’t have any discounts).
Whichever you choose, it’s hard to go wrong. It’s easy to be happy in Sausalito, and celebrating Happy Hour in Sausalito is just the cherry on top.
1. Barrel House Tavern
Situated in historic downtown Sausalito, Barrel House Tavern is a terrific place for weekday Happy Hour in Sausalito. Like I said before, Barrel House Tavern offers Sausalito Happy Hour specials on weekdays only from 12 pm to 7 pm.
They have an excellent variety of appetizers, from oysters to chicken wings to fish tacos. So you can order a bunch of different items to share if you go with a big group. You can also choose from a rich selection of drinks, including draft beer, wine, and cocktails. The restaurant has a lovely outside deck; if there’s beautiful weather, sit outside to see the bridge, sailboats, water, and all that goes with it.
2. Seafood Peddler
Voted the best Happy Hour in Marin 2019 (which, let’s be honest, is the last year anyone had a happy hour…), Seafood Peddler is a popular spot for Happy Hour in Sausalito. You can join the restaurant seven days a week from 4 pm to 7 pm in the restaurant’s bar area for affordable drinks and delicious dishes.
Some of the venue’s most popular dishes are on the menu, like Littleneck Clam, baked oyster with Meyer lemon and garlic, and Jumbo Cocktail Prawn. As for drinks, take my advice and order the sangria. You won’t regret it.
3. Saylor’s Restaurant & Bar
Saylor’s Restaurant & Bar is the first name that pops out when looking for Mexican restaurants in Sausalito. The waterfront venue is also one of the best spots for Happy Hour in Sausalito. After all, nothing beats a cheerful Mexican atmosphere after the end of a long day.
Their Happy Hour is from 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays, and the menu boasts a solid selection of street tacos, fries, and pizza. As for the drinks, they offer different specials depending on the day.
Other Good Restaurants During Happy Hour…
…that don’t offer Happy Hour specials.
Because sometimes you miss that window of time or the place is full, here are a few other places to try during the traditional Happy Hour hours with great food and drinks.
4. Bar Bocce
Unfortunately, Bar Bocce doesn’t join the Sausalito Happy Hour drinks scene. However, any place with a bocce court and a back patio with a fire pit makes an excellent spot to enjoy a few cocktails and unwind before turning in. Bar Bocce is famous for its pizzas, but it also has a nice variety of appetizers to try and a long list of cocktails, wines, and beers to pair with your dish.
5. Hanson of Sonoma
One of many Sausalito businesses that had to get creative during the past few years, Hanson of Sonoma has greatly expanded their offering to become one of the best spots for cocktails in town. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that they have fabulous spirits to serve as the foundation for their drinks.
While they don’t have Happy Hour specials, they do have tastings and a food menu with delicious light bites that’s perfect for Happy Hour even if nobody calls it that. They also have specials on oysters on Friday evenings, which pair perfectly with their spirits or cocktails.
All this to say, they’re really a great Happy Hour spot, even if not in the traditional sense.
6. Napa Valley Burger Company
A slice of Napa Valley in Sausalito, Napa Valley Burger Company makes exquisite gourmet burgers – the best ones in Sausalito, some may say (we do!). The restaurant isn’t only a place to enjoy delicious burgers; their selection of local wines is equally splendid. Also, the restaurant’s fun casual atmosphere fits the Happy Hour vibe.
7. No Name Bar
No Name Bar is an excellent yet little-known place to hang out and get good drinks with a low-key profile. The bar is pretty straightforward, oozing an old 1900s vibe. The drinks are affordable and refreshing. They also have a good selection of beers. There are usually live bands playing, and guests can dance the night away close to the stage.
8. Smitty’s Bar
“Damn good drinks” reads Smitty’s Bar’s webpage, and they sure are good. This historic dive bar in Sausalito has everything you need to enjoy a good time. The menu shows a good selection of mixed drinks and beers. They also have pool tables, shuffleboards, and a foosball table.
9. The Trident
Going to The Trident is like walking into a piece of Sausalito history. The historic restaurant on the Sausalito waterfront is a bit pricier than other options, though I’ve heard they sometimes do have Happy Hour specials. However, the astounding quality of the dishes and the waterfront views will make it worth your while. I suggest you go to the heated outdoor decks to enjoy a wonderful Bay-side Happy Hour experience.
For one last contender, I’ve heard that the Sausalito Seahorse does happy hour specials, but haven’t been able to visit and confirm for myself yet. If you know that’s true, comment and let me know the details so I can add them to the list.
